Orlando Florida – The Snow Birds
I was asked to go down to Florida for a nice lady’s 80th birthday party. We met up with her mother, who is a full of energy/wit 97 year old, who can cook circles around anyone half her age. We would sit up all day and night listening to all her stories about her life. Countless trips up and down the east coast in search of a nicer place to live. The neighborhood they live in is a trailer park filled with 600 or so lots. Everyone in the park is 55 years old and up, and most of them are all from up north, but now call Florida their final home. The birthday party was held in a community center, which also doubles as a bingo hall and pool house. They have everything they would need in this little community, and most of them are living the rest of their lives in complete happiness. Heres some shots of some of the people, including Miss Lucy “Nannie” Pitt, among others are an avid photographer lady who almost ran me over in her hover-round, and the nice retro facilities that they have at the community center.

These photos are depressing, banal, quiet, and awkwardly accurate in their color fidelity. Thus, they make me happy. I like this set a lot and would be stoked to see some more work with people you’re not putting in a lit portraits. Also, look up Bill Owens, http://www.billowens.com/#a=0&at=0&mi=2&pt=1&pi=10000&s=10&p=4.
