Sheldon Church revisited…(photoblog)
I visited another great South Carolina spot again. I’ve been to Sheldon Church over a year ago, and didn’t spend too much time there because of the weather. This time i shot more detailed shots of the decaying walls and fun graffiti of visitors. Its a good spot, only problem is all the mosquitoes and bugs there, other then that it would be great to chill out there for an afternoon. To view the images in a photo gallery style, click here.

Exploring again…Urban Exploration 2010
Well I have been exploring a lot more recently, just driving around and finding nice spots to check out and photograph. These photos are from a site I have been before, but recently got permission to actually be in, so I could take my sweet time with the photos and stuff..I finally feel I captured the feel of this place. You will see a lot of old machine parts and chains etc. Theres a lot of rust, so I didnt venture up into the top floors, but the floors I got to were great. Check them out and tell me what you think. I also might be selling some 8×10s of my photos coming up soon, so shoot me an email if you are interested in any. Also to view the photos in a gallery type page, click here.

Charleston City Paper – Ridonkulous Summer Guide
So the Charleston City Paper asked me to shoot their upcoming summer guide…the whole issue was to be about the upcoming summer season and is to include lists of top 5 reasons, etc…The idea they pitched to me was to take pictures of Donks (big rimmed cars, with loud speakers and even louder paint jobs). The hardest part of the whole thing was getting a hold of the guys…we also had to take pics in front of Charleston locations, which made it even harder. Heres the cover of the issue, and you can pick one up now online or in person around the Charleston area. Also much thanks to Micah at Tint Works for all the help and World Wide and Fred for the sweet cars. Read the issue online here.
Also here are some shots that weren’t used in the issue, well some were, but more then not they werent..

The Assault at the Battery – Lowcountry HighRollers
Here are actual shots of the match at the Citadel that the Lowcountry Highrollers had. It was 2 different games, the first one was the “B” team and then the second was the “Allstars”, which had a lot of the more experienced girls in it. It was a fun time, and you should def check them out the next time they are playing in town!

The Lowcountry HighRollers (photoblog)
The Lowcountry HighRollers are a roller derby team out of Charleston, they have been quickly progressing in fanbase for the past couple of years now. I’ve known some of them a while and finally found the time to get to one of their matches and try to setup some portraits. I shot some of these after warm ups, and then some before the matches, so some of them show the girls in their natural state. You will also notice that some of them aren’t geared up, mostly because a lot of the founding members are injured and can’t actually compete until they are all healed up…but I’ve still included them (I also didnt get every girl involved…there are about 40+ on the team). If you are interested in these photos, then you should really check out the girls at The Lowcountry Highrollers website, and catch a match whenever it comes your way.

Iron Lotus Studios – Charleston, SC
Iron Lotus Studios is a new tattoo shop here in Charleston, SC (West Ashley). I’ve been friends with the guys for a couple years now, and they finally mostly finished their new shop located at 1921a Savannah Highway in West Ashley. They used to have Lucky7s Tattoos before they eventually closed it to focus all their attention and skills in the new shop. Its a huge place and I’m helping curate the art work that is displayed up there. Right now we have some great art from Scott Debus, SHT!, Meta, Chuck Keppler, Chad Haselden, Robert Donovan, Tim Showers, myself, and a bunch of others. These photos have been taken over a weeks time, and it shows off the sweet setup they have their and what more they can offer to the lowcountry in terms of high-end tattoo work. They will be having their grand opening party in the coming weeks, so if you want to come out to that, shoot me an email or leave a comment…and to check out Iron Lotus on the web, they have a twitter for now..but a website is coming soon. Heres the twitter link. Follow em!

The “Dark Riders” Motorcycle Club – Summerville, SC
Late on Saturday night, my buddy Meta asked me if I would be interested in checking out a motorcycle party…earlier in the day he spotted the riders in Hollywood,SC doing a “memory ride” for their comrade who died a year ago. The whole day long ride ended up at the B&H meeting hall in Summerville, SC. We arrived at the building and went for the door, met with security we asked about possibly setting up some portraits of the bikers. They were a little confused at first, but eventually were cool with me setting up on their dance floor before the whole party started off. They were really great people, and I think they can get a bad rap sometimes, but they are real people and have great big hearts..I shook each ones hand and I really appreciate their time to let me do what I want with them. Ill try to sub title the people I know who’s names I do know, so bare with me..

The Faces Behind Charleston’s Street Culture
Charleston has been up and down in terms of street wear and street culture. With Suite Sole recently closing, and a lot of people moving away, it has taken a huge hit on the availability of the wear, but there are still some great talent pushing the movement in this downed economy. I was fortunate enough to meet a lot of these guys a few years ago and learn a lot from them. These guys are a good representation of Charleston Street Culture.

KJ Kearney – runs a blog http://www.h1gher.com/ and also runs BRWNY DRBY

Peezo – runs a street wear blog called http://www.meetthefresh.com/

Gustavo Serrano – works at Vapor Apparel and is apart of the people who do Kulture Klash. Owned, now defunct Suite Sole and B’zar

Taji Alston – from Baltimore, moved to Charleston to push Tiger Paw Clothing http://twitter.com/TigerPaw410

Matt Hanna – a street wear blogger formerly from NYC that runs http://diptnyc.com/

Matt Bostick aka Righchus – a local rap artist in Charleston. http://righchus.com/

Early Bird Diner: The People Behind the Food
If you don’t know already, my favorite spot to get some great breakfast/southern cooking around Charleston is The Early Bird Diner. Its located on Savannah Highway in West Ashley and I’ve come to get to know a lot of the people behind the food, they were even cool enough to name a fried chicken sandwich after me (aka the “BadJon”). Here is a collection of photos of most of the staff behind the food (note: there are also a lot of others that work there, but not all could make it to the shoot)…For more info on the diner, check out their website and follow them on twitter/facebook.

Artist Profile: Chad Haselden – Copper Worker
I’ve known Chad Haselden for a little while, and we always planned to setup some type of photos for him. Well we finally got down to shooting. I setup at his work shed in Mt Pleasant. The first few shots were all my idea, just a portrait of him and his tools but with a “superhero” feel to them, and the rest are of him planning a design and then torching on a piece and then finally beating the piece into his vision. Chad’s art can be seen at Scoop Studios downtown on Broad Street, or check out his website here.
